2020
Today Skanem has factories in 8 countries and is one of the leading label suppliers in Norway, Poland, Kenya and India.
2019
Maryne Lemvik takes over as CEO of Skanem Group. Ole Rugland takes the position of Executive Chairman.
2012
Skanem identifies growing markets in Africa and India and therefore acquires Interlabels India and Interlabels Kenya.
2007
Skanem builds own production plant in Bangkok to make a debut in the Asian market. The Bangkok plant was built to cater to a customer’s growing demand in the region.
2005
Skanem moves into the Eastern European market by acquiring a print company named Introl in Russia and Poland.
2003
Skanem sells most metal packaging and film companies, to focus solely on self-adhesive labels
2002
Skanem acquires SE labels.
2000
With decreased demand of metal cans in Scandinavia, Skanem wanted to grow into new markets.
1995-1998
Skanem expanded out of Norway and acquired Hydrocan and Nordisk Blik in Denmark and started to export deep drawn aluminium cans to mainland Europe and the far east.
1991
Noblikk Sannem, the largest metal packaging company in Norway was acquired by Skanem.
1986-1990
With focus on metal packaging, Skanem was able to grow substantially in the Norwegian and Danish market.
1986
Ole Rugland was hired as Managing Director in March 1985 and acquired Skanem in August 1986.
1973
With a flourishing partnership with Stavanger Bliktrykkeri, Cebal decided to buy the company. The name was changed to Skanem, which is a combination of two words, Scandinavia and Emballage. Skanem became the patent holder and first supplier of easy open lid for aluminium cans in Norway.
1962-63
Stavanger Bliktrykkeri partnered with a French company called Cebal to develop deep drawn aluminium cans with easy opening lids.
1960
A positive consumer growth in Norway made the company focus on tin cans for food and paint. The company invested in automatic welding machines and printing presses.
1952
The name Stavanger Bliktrykkeri og Maskinverksted changed to Stavanger Bliktrykkeri.
1944
Two of the founders, Albert L. Barstad and Halfdan Abel-Lunde took retirement after having led the company for 39 years.
1920
Stavanger Bliktrykkeri og Maskinverksted was known for taking good care of its people and ahead of its times with respect to work environment and labour rights e.g. paid holidays, bonuses and inflation relief funds.
1915
The company was a pioneer in innovations and owned 10 different patents.
1911
The business achieved rapid success and growth. The number of employees grew from 30 in 1905 to 300 in 1911.
1905
In the late 19th century, the Norwegian industry for canned fish products grew rapidly. In the Stavanger region alone, there were over 60 canning factories. To cater to the growing demand for tin cans, Skanem was founded in Norway by Albert L. Barstad, Halfdan Abel Lunde and Robert Paul Richard Scholz as Stavanger Bliktrykkeri og Maskinverksted. The company was later popularly known as ‘Blikken’.
